Pursuant to Provincial Ordinance No. 23, series of 2024, passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Bataan led by Vice Governor Cris Garcia, the Pawikan has been declared as the flagship species of the province of Bataan.
In this regard, the Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) recognizes the importance of conserving and protecting its unique biodiversity, particularly the sea turtles found in the province, such as the Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, and Green Sea Turtles.
This initiative also aims to raise awareness among the residents and tourists of the province on the importance of conserving sea turtles and their habitats, promoting sustainable marine practices, and fostering partnerships and collaborations with various government agencies, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to implement programs and initiatives for the conservation and protection of sea turtles.
Said Ordinance, ensures the PGBs commitment in preserving and protecting of pawikan for the benefit of present and future generations.
